The days leading up to my vacation in Kauai were so exciting; I have heard of so many great things that Kauai has to offer. The hiking, the beaches, the views, the food, the adventures… I sometimes wondered how I was suppose to fit it all in! I love new places, especially the tropical ones. So since I had never been to Kauai before, this was even more exciting. Kauai is a gorgeous island and I absolutely loved every moment of it. There were so many adventures and beautiful spots that I could talk about but that would take forever. It was hard to narrow it down to just five things but I wanted to share with you my top five, so here you go!
This had to be my favorite hike that we did. We happened to have great weather for this trail and since I heard that it could get really wet and muddy, I feel very blessed with the opportunity to do this hike. It was clearly amazing. It is about a 4-mile hike, but worth every step because the destination is AMAZING! About half way through the hike the view is spectacular!
The hike became more difficult as we got closer to our destination, but the different shades of blue water made the hike easier to continue on. I suggest anyone planning to do this hike, be prepared with either good tennis shoes or hiking boots!
As we got to the bottom of the trail, we had to cross a small river by jumping some rocks. I suggest you take some time to look at your surroundings because the river is gorgeous! You can even see the mountains in the background. This is not something you want to miss out on.
After crossing over the water and walking through some trees, it opens up to one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen! The beach and the surroundings that you end up at are so beautiful it makes every step to get there worth it! The sand is clean and soft. There are plenty of rocks to rest on after the 2-mile hike there.
The waves were large at this beach, not quite a place you can go swimming. The water is warm and definitely worth going out and feeling! You just might end up with sand in your shoes for the hike back, like I did! I wouldn’t have had it any other way though.
So this was my favorite restaurant on the island. I never EVER crave Mexican food, but we had to go back a second time before we left the Kauai. They are great because they focus on eating clean so they use 100% grass fed Kauai beef and antibiotic-free, hormone-free chicken & pork. They also have gluten free and vegetarian options! This is a GREAT place to come to eat!!
The first time we went there, I had the chicken quesadilla and it was delicious. I wish I would have gotten a picture of it, but sadly I didn’t. Their margaritas were fun and yummy. I got the Sunset Mangorita, which included Li-Hing Mui as the dried plum powder on the rim of the cup.
The second night that we were their for dinner, we decided to try their nachos! They come with Makaweli Kauai beef, beans, cheese, Christmas chiles, sour cream and guacamole. They were filling, so I suggest that this not be just a starter as they suggest. I shared it with my boyfriend and we still did not have room for a regular meal after that, even though I took the quesadilla to go. Of course I couldn’t miss the chance of having it a second time!
Zip-lining with Skyline Adventures
Zip-lining was the scariest but most thrilling thing I did while in Kauai. I am fully afraid of heights but it was AWESOME!! I am so happy that I followed through with this plan. I was so scared jumping off of each plank but had fun as I was flying through the air.
So I had a really hard time actually leaving the platform… It took a lot of encouragement from our amazing tour guides, the people in our group, and my boyfriend. Even though there might have been some good smiles in these pictures, I was scared. I really do encourage people afraid of heights to try this out. It might be hard at first but it is totally worth the view. This is something I will do again if I have the chance. Our tour guides were awesome! They made this trip memorable! They told stories that were not always comforting, but really funny. Please look into Skyline Adventures if you are ever on Kauai, Maui, or the Big Island.
Snorkeling in Koloa
Man was this an interesting event. I make myself sound like a wuss, but I was scared of snorkeling. It was a great experience even though I was so nervous the entire time. The hardest part for me was not being able to breathe out of my nose (stupid, I know). After all said and done, it was wonderful under the water. The water was warm so it was an easy swim, thank goodness!! We saw some cool looking fish and of course the view from the water wasn’t hard on the eyes.
The coolest thing that we saw was this turtle. I thought it was a miracle that we saw him, as I did not expect to. He was pretty patient with us because we were right up in his face. These are a few different screen shots from the awesome video we took.
This is a great beach, even though it’s small, to go snorkeling at. We got our stuff from Boss Frog’s Dive and Surf shop right on the beach and it was super cheap, only $9 to rent all the stuff per person for the day! What a great deal for a day of experiences and fun!
If you’ve ever been to Kauai, you know that 85% of the island can only be seen by helicopter (which is something that we did not do this time). But Waimea Canyon gives you a few different look out places where you can see the canyon.
Some of the views are breathtaking and you can get caught staring at them for a long time. This is something that should definitely be on your to-do list when on the island. There are so many different lookouts and hikes in this area. It’s worth checking out.
Kauai has been a wonderful adventure, and all of these activities have made it unforgettable. I hope that you are able to escape sometime soon and find time to head over to Kauai. I promise you won’t regret it! If you have been to Kauai already and have some favorite spots, please feel free to share with my other readers in the comment section below! Mahalo!
